Abstract

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) due to the unwise use of antibiotics is a global health threat. Many people in Indonesia still self-medicate with antibiotics without prescriptions and do not understand the dangers of resistance. Some antibiotic resistance is caused by exposure to antibiotics in agricultural and livestock products. This situation requires educational interventions to improve public health literacy. This community service activity is crucial as a community-based effort to prevent antibiotic resistance in public spaces. The goal is to increase public knowledge and awareness about the wise use of antibiotics and encourage behavioral changes in obtaining and consuming antibiotics appropriately. The educational method involved distributing flyers and interactive discussions with 100 visitors and traders at Kranggan Market from December 2025 to February 2026, with quantitative and qualitative evaluations. The activity results showed that the target of 100 participants was achieved and even exceeded, reaching 112 participants. Forty-two participants actively participated in the discussion, asking various questions, such as the differences between antibiotics and other drugs, safety for children, and antibiotic storage habits at home. A common misconception was identified that antibiotics can be used for coughs and colds and can be purchased without a prescription. Field documentation demonstrated community enthusiasm and the effectiveness of the communication approach. The most effective time for education is between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. The activity proceeded without disrupting market activity. Conclusion: Participatory education activities effectively increased public literacy about wise antibiotic use.
